Photographs of Nicaragua

View the Photos

These photos were taken during an 8-day cultural immersion ecotour to Nicaragua recently. While not specifically a photography tour, it offered plentiful opportunities for various kinds of picture taking. I highly recommend this tour because not only will you have a great time, but you will be helping economic development in this poor, rural part of the country. The tours are run by the NGO Sister Communities of San Ramón Nicaragua (on whose board I serve) and all proceeds go to support educational and economic development needs of the region.

You'll travel in a small group of 8-16 people with a guide and interpreter. Half of the trip is spent at a coffee plantation high in the mountains where you will hike the cloud forest, see lots of tropical birds, learn about coffee growing and production, and more. The other half is spent in the small town of San Ramón where you'll stay with and take some meals with a carefully vetted local host family as well as joining the group for more nature walks, cultural activities, trips to schools, etc. Optional activities for the end of your stay include side trips to Granada and its colonial architecture, the Pacific coast with pristine beaches, or Masaya and its traditional crafts.
